Born and raised a Kenora boy. In fact, not just ANY Kenora boy…I was a Coney Island boy. I went to school for many years with people I still bump into or hear about today. Almost daily I come across someone on the street I haven’t seen for years, or hear a name dropped from days gone by.
I first started at CJRL in June, 1983. Do the math. I was 22 years old, and CJRL was broadcasting at 1220 KHz on the AM radio dial at that time. In 1985 I moved to 94FM in Thunder Bay, and then left radio to attend Lakehead University, where I obtained my B.A. in Philosophy, History and Geography. I also obtained my teaching degree.
After university I toured Canada as a one-man band for a time before moving back to Kenora where I eventually rejoined the CJRL team, this time in a sales capacity. Eventually I decided to try my hand in a teaching career, since I’d gone to university to get my teaching degree. Loved the teaching, loved the kids, but couldn’t stand the politics and bureaucracy and all the “politically correct” B.S.
Meanwhile I’d married a lovely girl from Minaki, Liz Cordeiro, on New Year’s Day, 1998. She’s still my bestest girl, and we live in Kenora together.
Now I’m back at CJRL for the fourth time, and loving every minute of it. Almost. Kinda. Well, most of the time. Sometimes. LOL…just kidding. It’s great. Makes me wonder what I was looking to find when I left on previous occasions. Maybe I was just at that age where I had to explore the world a bit. But here I am again, and life’s good.
Catch me weekday afternoons between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm on 89.5 Mix FM.
