Muskrats Could Help Prevent Floating Bogs

Muskrats could be the key to preventing floating bogs in Laurenson's Creek.

In a deputation to city council, Ryan Haines with Kenora Resource Consultants says muskrats feed on cattail
mats.

But if the water is drawn down too low in the winter, it makes it difficult for the muskrats to access those plants.

Haines is suggesting a temporary dam be installed in the fall to keep water levels
from falling too much and protecting the muskrat habitat.
